Privacy notice
Last updated: 22 October 2026
This notice explains what personal information I collect through this website, why I collect it, how I look after it, and what your rights are. I've kept it short and in plain English.
Who I am
This website is run by Ricky Du Plessis, a sole trader based in the UK. Under UK data protection law I'm the "controller" of your personal information. That means I decide how it's used and I'm responsible for looking after it.
If you have any questions about this notice or about your information, email me at rickydup85@gmail.com.
What I collect
When you send an enquiry
Your name, email address and message, what your enquiry is for and who your audience is. If you choose to give them, also your organisation or event, the event date and its location.
Please don't include details about your own or anyone else's health in the form, including a child's needs. If they're relevant, we can talk about them once we're in touch.
When you visit the website
Like almost every website, the service that hosts this one (Cloudflare) automatically processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. This is needed to show you the website and to protect it from attacks. I don't use it to identify you.
I don't use analytics, advertising or tracking tools on this website.
Why I use it, and the legal basis
- To reply to your enquiry, and if we decide to work together, to arrange and deliver that work. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in responding to people who contact me. Where you're asking about booking me, it's also to take steps you've asked for before we enter into a contract.
- To keep the website working and secure, using the technical information above. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in running a safe, working website.
I won't add you to a mailing list or send you marketing unless you separately ask me to. I never sell your information, and I don't make automated decisions about you.
Who else handles it
I use a small number of trusted services to run this website and my email. They handle information on my behalf and only as I instruct:
- Cloudflare hosts this website.
- Web3Forms passes your enquiry from the website to my inbox.
- Google (Gmail) is where your enquiry arrives and where I reply from.
- YouTube (Google), only if you choose to play the video on this website. See "Cookies and the video" below.
I'll only share your information with anyone else if the law requires me to.
Transfers outside the UK
Some of these services are based in, or use servers in, the United States. When your information is transferred outside the UK, it's protected by safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK–US "data bridge" or the International Data Transfer Agreement approved by the Information Commissioner.
How long I keep it
- Enquiries that don't lead to work together: up to two years after we were last in touch, then I delete them.
- If we work together: for as long as I need it for that work, and then for as long as the law requires me to keep business records. For tax, that's at least five years after the 31 January filing deadline for the tax year concerned.
- Technical information: held by Cloudflare for short periods, only as needed to run and protect the website.
How I keep it secure
Information you send through the form travels over an encrypted connection. Only I can read enquiries, and the accounts I use are protected with strong passwords and two-step verification.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information I hold about you
- ask me to correct information that's wrong or incomplete
- ask me to delete your information
- ask me to limit how I use your information, or object to my using it
- in some cases, receive your information in a format you can pass to someone else
To use any of these rights, email me at rickydup85@gmail.com. There's normally no charge, and I'll reply within one month.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, please tell me first at rickydup85@gmail.com so I can put it right. I'll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days, look into it, and keep you updated until it's resolved.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or by calling 0303 123 1113.
Cookies and the video
This website doesn't set any cookies of its own.
The showreels are YouTube videos. Nothing loads from YouTube until you click play, and it uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. Once you play it, YouTube (owned by Google) may set cookies and collect information about your viewing, as set out in Google's privacy policy.
This website also links to other websites, such as Spotify, Amazon, Substack and social media. Once you follow a link, that website's own privacy policy applies.
Changes to this notice
If anything changes in how I use your information, I'll update this notice. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
