Addressing workplace stress

Capacity, not just coping. Building the capacity to withstand inescapable chronic stress, through metabolic resilience.

Why it matters

Most workplace pressure can't simply be removed.

For teams, managers, leaders, and HR and wellbeing audiences: anyone working under pressure that doesn't let up.

Workloads, deadlines, change and life outside work all add up. When people run on empty, it shows in their energy, focus, absence and retention.

Conventional stress management assumes you can reduce or remove the stressor. When you can't, what decides whether people burn out or keep going is their capacity to carry the load. And that capacity can be deliberately built.

Every session is tailored to the audience that books it, starting with a tailoring call.

Chronic Stress – The Science of Why It Breaks Some But Not Others

60 minutes, online or in person: about 45 minutes of talk, then 15 minutes of live Q&A. Any audience size.

Download the talk sheet (PDF)

Who it's for

Teams, managers, leaders, and HR and wellbeing audiences. It works well as a lunch-and-learn, part of a wellbeing day or week, or a conference slot. No scientific background is needed; it's accessible without being dumbed down.

What it is (and isn't)

An awareness talk, designed to inform and inspire rather than to train. Your people leave understanding their stress differently, with a sense of what they could change and wanting to know more.

What the talk covers

  • Why so much workplace stress has no off-switch, and why conventional stress management falls short when the pressure can't be removed
  • The biology of stress in plain language: how metabolic health underpins mental resilience
  • Why the same pressure breaks one person and builds another: endurance, resilience and anti-fragility
  • Why building capacity is a different goal from managing symptoms

What your people take away

  • A clear understanding of how chronic stress affects energy, focus, mood and performance
  • The difference between coping with pressure and building the capacity to carry it
  • A fresh perspective on their own wellbeing, and the motivation to act on it
  • Clear pointers for going further

What's included

  • A tailoring call beforehand, then the live talk and Q&A
  • A 14-day catch-up recording, useful for shift workers and other sites
  • A promotional blurb and headshot for your internal comms
  • A one-page “Where to go next” PDF for attendees

What I need from you

  • Online: your platform (for example Teams or Zoom) and a short technical check
  • In person: a room with a screen, a microphone for groups over 30, and access 45 minutes beforehand
  • A named contact, and promotion of the session to your staff

Good to know

Can it be tailored? Yes. The examples and emphasis are shaped around your organisation on the tailoring call.

Is it medical advice? No. It's education and lived experience, not diagnosis or treatment.

Want to go further? The talk informs and inspires; the workshop turns it into practical strategies your people can sustain.

Workshop

Seaworthy – How to Build Resilience & Anti-Fragility Against Chronic Stress

Half day: about 3 hours, online or in person; a follow-on for teams who've had the talk. Full day: the complete package, in person (typically 10:00–15:30) or online as two 3-hour sessions. Up to 50 people; larger groups by arrangement.

Who it's for

Teams, managers, leaders, and HR and wellbeing audiences ready to move from awareness to action. It works well as part of a wellbeing day or week, or a conference slot. No scientific background is needed; it's accessible without being dumbed down.

What it is (and isn't)

A practical, interactive workshop: education, with time to apply it. It isn't a quick fix or a one-size-fits-all plan. Capacity is built gradually, and the workshop shows each person where to start. Awareness on its own rarely changes behaviour. This workshop gives your people a practical, evidence-informed way to build their capacity, so they can keep performing without running on empty, starting from where they actually are.

What the workshop covers

  • Half day: a brief refresher on the talk, then straight into practical strategies for implementation
  • Full day: the complete talk, built into the interactive sessions
  • My Metabolic Health Hierarchy and Five Pillars: the foundations of sustainable improvement
  • Group work to choose a personal entry point and one realistic first change, plus a resource list for next steps

What your people take away

  • A practical framework for building capacity, not just coping
  • Realistic starting points across the five pillars
  • Their own entry point and first change, chosen in the session
  • Ideas and encouragement from colleagues facing the same pressures

What's included

  • A tailoring call beforehand, then the live workshop
  • A resource pack (PDF) for every participant
  • A 14-day catch-up recording of the session (can be switched off on request)
  • A promotional blurb and headshot for your internal comms

What I need from you

  • Online: your platform with breakout rooms (for example Teams or Zoom) and a short technical check
  • In person: a room with a screen and tables for group work, a microphone for groups over 30, and access 45 minutes beforehand
  • A named contact, and promotion of the session to your staff

Good to know

Haven't had the talk? Choose the full day. It includes everything.

Can we keep the recording? Yes, for internal use, with a recording licence. External use is by agreement only.

Is it medical advice? No. It's education and lived experience, not diagnosis or treatment.
